Creating Through a Broken Foot & God’s Will: An Inside Look at Bringing My Mom’s 2027 Book, More Than a Believer, to Life
My mother & I had spent a beautiful day together, starting with a picturesque brunch at a local restaurant.
When we returned home, we decided to take a walk around our neighborhood.
Our neighborhood is surrounded by large hills, which are just as beautiful to witness as they are tempting to speed up & down.
Near the end of our walk, my mom & I decided to sit by our neighborhood lake.
As she turned her head toward the lake, my mom lost her balance & fell facedown.
Standing beside her, I called out & received no response because she was in shock.
Of course, my mind went to the worst possible scenario.
Once she regained her senses, it became evident that she could not walk.
We weren't far from home, but there was one more hill between us & our front door.
I offered to get the car to drive my mom home, but moments later, one of our neighbors drove by on his way home from work.
I ran towards his truck, waving my arms to get his attention. He saw me in the rear view mirror, turned around, helped me get my mom into the passenger seat, & gave us a ride home.
What my mom hoped was a sprained ankle turned out to be a broken foot.
Suddenly everyday life looked different.
My mom could only drag herself across the floor, with me by her side to help her get from Point A to Point B.
Within days of her injury, my mom sensed God prompting her to write a second book.
That book is More Than a Believer: Living the Life Christ Died For.
My mom just submitted the first draft of More Than a Believer (MTAB) to her publisher for developmental editing, & I've had the honor of reading the manuscript & offering my opinions along the way.
I'm not only reading the book as her daughter.
I'm reading it as the artist who will create illustrations for it.
Reading the first manuscript gives me the opportunity to understand the heart in the words before I even put paint to paper. Because my watercolor illustrations are a part of the message, not just decoration for the pages.
After reading the first draft, there are already several truths I can't stop thinking about.
Like any great piece of work, I know I will have more key takeaways with repeated studies (aka more drafts will be read by me), but here's what immediately stood out:
• Being a believer & living the life Christ died for are two very different things
• Behold Him, believe Him, & revere Him so that your life increasingly reflects His character
• Generational faith does not begin when you become a parent, nor does it end when your grandchildren are no longer children
As someone who has read multiple personal development books, theological books, & Christian books, I can honestly say that this book is unlike any other because it studies the life of Christ and how His life applies to ours.
My mom takes Scripture seriously, she deeply studies what she writes, & what she teaches is what she applies to her life.
In addition to the Bible, every woman should read The Good Mom Trap as well as More Than a Believer.

A broken foot wasn't how we expected this story to begin.
